Plateau Buster One Hand Deadlift
Starting 11-22-11, this will be my list of contest Plateau Buster One Hand Deadlifts.
The Plateau Buster is an incredible piece of equipment! It was created by Ryan Pitts – the genius behind Stronger Grip products. I wasn’t sure what to think of it since I thought it would be likely to tweak my back (from a December 2010 back injury). But I was pleasantly surprised and it didn’t bother my back at all. It is an excellent test of grip and also involves a lot of bodily strength – even though the range of motion is pretty limited for most guys that are my height – @ 5’10″. Even the guys that are 6’2″ aren’t pulling it super high. So it is less likely to tear up backs than a lift that involves a much longer range of motion with the potential for pulling a lot of weight with one hand.
There have been 3 grip contests where the Plateau Buster has been an event:
-
The first (May 2011) Grip Decathlon in Plymouth, Minnesota. The winning lift at this contest was 563 pounds – Adam Glass.
-
Grip Nationals (July 2011) in Crooksville, Ohio. The winning lift at this contest was 600 pounds – Andrew Durniat.
-
The Fall Grip Decathlon (November 12th, 2011) in Plymouth, Minnesota. The winning lift at this contest was 451 pounds – Ben Edwards. Hey, that’s me! I should’ve tried a higher weight but I ran out of attempts. Looking back I think 500 pounds would’ve gone for me.
-
The heaviest Women’s lift was done by Kathi Burger – 333 pounds – at the Fall Grip Decathlon. That’s well over double bodyweight – she weighed 149 pounds at the contest!
