9-6-11: MMS Grippers, TNS Grippers

9-6-11, Tuesday


Used a base of Dry Hands with chalk over that and didn’t need to reapply Dry Hands during the MMS and TNS part of the workout. 

-Trainer-x10-both hands

-#2×2-right hand, -x1-left hand     Did a short video explaining the difference between a “pinch set” and a “push set” for Jordan on the Ironmind forum.  Otherwise I would’ve done just a single righty. 

-137lb #3×1-both hands     Both solid.

-151lb #3×1-right hand, -MISS-left hand     Missed lefty by 3/16″!  Wow, I haven’t missed on this gripper lefty like that for quite a while.  Not sure what’s going on.  Righty was like a bomb going off.

-165lb Super Elite-x1-right hand, -MISS-left hand     Missed by 3/16″ lefty.  Slammed it righty.

-174lb Elite-x1-right hand     Slammed and held shut for 2 seconds.

-151lb #3×1-left hand     Solid close and a 1-second hold.  Makes more sense than missing it by a mile like I did on that other attempt.

-179lb Elite-x1-right hand     Crushed it shut and held for 1 second.  The 179lb Elite has officially become a “commonplace” close in my gripper workouts now!  This should translate to a 180lb+ gripper close at the Fall Grip Decathlon.  2 months away now!

Very strong MMS workout today.  Made it short because I just wanted to work up to an attempt on the 179lb Elite to see where I was at.  Then I wanted to go on to do some TNS work and a Mouse Pinch workout to finish it off.  This will be very good for a more contest-realistic training day too.


-159lb RB330N-MISS-right hand     By a sliver!  Agonizing to be that close.  Had to check the video a half dozen times because it was THAT close.  So close that air itself might’ve had to go through single-file. 

-159lb RB330N-MISS-right hand     Missed by 1/16″.  Dang it! 

-153lb GNC250-MISS-left hand     Missed by 1/16″.  So close. 

-153lb GNC250x1-right hand     Solid close.

-134lb Bone Crusher 300×1-left hand     Smashed it shut.

-168lb GNC300-MISS-right hand     Missed by 3/16″ but felt pretty strong. 

-134lb Bone Crusher 300×1-left hand     Slammed it shut.

-159lb RB330N-MISS-right hand     Missed by 1/16″ again!  I don’t need to repeat all the cuss words I wrote in my training journal about getting this close and not being able to finish it off. 

Stopped the TNS part of the workout there and looking back I should’ve finished with a success.  Even if it was dropping way down to the easy #3 and smashing a single or two.  TNS strength was probably down a bit due to the nasty density PR I got on the 3rd.
