Power Tower Pushups

8-17-12, Friday

Did a few easy (not to failure) sets of pushups using the pushup handles on my Power Tower.  Found it to be harder than normal pushups (hands on the floor) for several reasons.  Even though the handles are elevated and less percentage of bodyweight is at play.

  • Foot slippage made a difference.  I wore shoes but they were constantly sliding a little bit.  So some of my energy was spent trying to counteract the minute sliding (wood floors).  I will try barefoot next time because I don’t like the sliding effect when I’m trying to do pushups.

  • Range of motion is greater than a normal pushup.  Anyone who has done them on handles already knows this.  I knew it.  But I had forgotten how nice it felt on my shoulders and pecs compared to normal pushups.  I have never felt pushups or dips or bench press in my pecs.  I have felt it in the delt-pec tie-in a day or two later.  But never really in the belly of the pec, so to speak.  I felt my pecs working in the power tower pushup though and it may be something I go back to with some frequency.  Not for any bodybuilding-type workouts but because I like the feel of it.

Not working out with any strength goals in mind.  This is the first time in many, many years that I am working out what some would consider “aimlessly.”  I have to say it’s pretty nice and I have never lost my desire to workout.  And not having a goal in mind currently doesn’t mean that I never will have goals again.  But I’m not rushing it.  Just enjoying the feeling of my muscles working and my joints not hurting all the time.

The sprint work you do will pay off quickly. Intresting to reading your blog, even if its not about grip. Keep up the good work.

You always have a reason bro, just to do it. I haven’t trained with a goal in mind in nearly 2.5 years…ironically the same age as my twin sons. Life changes, other things become important. I had my fun, it is their time now. I leave in an hour to drive an hour to watch my 8 year old step-son play his first football game of the season. Tomorrow we will head out to the Rainbow Paradise Trout Farm and try to hook some 30″ trout! No workouts will find their way into that schedule. LIVIN!
